John Paul Engel
John Paul Engel is the founder of Knowledge Capital, a firm dedicated to Helping Companies Achieve Profitable Growth. Knowledge Capital's clients include global companies and emerging businesses.
Prior to founding Knowledge Capital, John worked as a strategy consultant for Corporate Value Associates, one of the leading European strategy firms. He worked on board-level strategy for some of the most successful companies in the world including a leading UK bank, a tier-one auto supplier, a European stock exchange, and the Japanese government. During his tenure with the firm, he maintained one of the highest utilitzation rates, helped found the Tokyo and Boston offices, and led U.S. MBA recruiting.
John began his career as an econometrician, first at the Bureau of Labor Statistics, then on the research staff of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. John's responsibilities included managing the programs that forecasted government receipts, refund obligations, and Treasury financing. He was on a research team that produced the economic forecasts used by the U.S. government to determine how much money to borrow and at what level to set interest rates. Every month billion dollar decisions were based on his work. John also helped develop and teach economic forecasting and computer programming classes for new Federal Reserve employees. He has worked on some of the largest surveys of businesses in the U.S. and on the first surveys of the Soviet Union conducted by U.S. and Russian researchers.
John is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Iowa where he received the University's highest honor, the Collegiate Scholar Award. He also received a National Science Foundation Honorable Mention. John pursued his graduate studies at the University of Chicago - Booth School of Business where he earned an MBA with an International distinction. He has been invited to guest lecture to MBA students at the University of Chicago, Oxford University, and Carnegie Mellon University. John is fluent in Spanish and has a basic knowledge of Japanese. He has worked on projects throughout Europe, Asia, Latin America, and North America for some of the most successful organizations in the world.
John has been active in community service his entire life. His interests include promoting foster parent programs, feeding the hungry, educating children, and improving health. He is currently active with Junior Achievement, The Susan G. Komen Foundation, Toastmasters, and the West Middle School Eighth Grade TAG Class.
